Guanajuato, GTO: A vortex of density

October 15, 2008

Our intentions were to spend a day or two in the famous town of Guanojato, the state's namesake. We arrived with plenty of time to explore the city but the roads were so convoluted and crowded we gave up on one pass. We should have known we were in trouble when upon driving into town we were met with solicitors on the highway stopping vehicles passing out hotel brochures. This city is built in a beautiful mountain chiasm and homes are built upon (and hang over) tunnels and streets. To see the map of Guanajuato is like looking at a bowl of spagetti, and to drive these streets is outright crazy. The streets are so narrow I think we were on two sidewalks at once. We're outta here!

Photos above: Comparables: map of Guanajuato and dinner. We were lucky to escape without a scratch and with our lives intact. No real photos taken due to required alertness of two adults. Had we be wise we'd landed a hotel on the edge of town and taken a taxi in. Photo below: Actual photo of Guanajuato ciudad.
