The drive to San Luis Potosi, SLP was only two and half hours and we arrived in el centro without difficulty. We walked around town searching for a hotel similar to Reyna Soledad but none came close. This colonial city is larger and there is more activity throughout the plazas. We settled for the well-reviewed Hotel Panorama, basically an adequate American style highrise.
Large old monastery (we think) appears abandoned.
Sixty-five percent of the road to SLP is in good shape, however the other 35% is a narrow two-lane black top in of the middle of the distance. At this time many roads in Mexico are under construction as we suspect the US road system must have looked like in the 50s or 60s. Many passing semi's on this mostly straight and occasional curvy road so care must be taken.
